The Rising Waters installation at Kendall Square MBTA stations in the heart of high tech near MIT show flooding from an extreme storm like hurricane Sandy at high tide with the Charles River dam over-topped. In 2014, Boston University student Brandon Lewis stopped by at an ArtWeek Boston event to help install the artwork, and Harvard student Kelly McGee helped make the artwork and installed it in the Kendall MBTA headhouses.

Rising Tides, the original project name, changed to Rising Waters after these installations to include fresh water flooding from rainfall and riverine flooding.

Fish flags along the bank of the Charles River near Magazine Beach, a popular public park, show flood projections due to sea level rise and storms. Boston’s Green Ribbon Commission and the state of Massachusetts are making comprehensive plans to build resiliency to flooding from sea level rise, storms and extreme rainfall.
